Ākonga will learn about:
- Health and Safety: Good work habits and safe work practices in the Automotive industry
- Engines: basic tuning on an engine, disassemble and re-assemble an engine
- Engineering: tools and equipment, industry engineering tasks
- General Service Checks: balance wheels, replace wheels, remove and replace lamps.
In the Administration module, you will get to know more about apprenticeships, vehicle documentation and new technology in the motor industry. You also will have the opportunity to improve your Literacy and Numeracy skills, which will help you to achieve NCEA Level 2.

- Applicants 15 years of age may enrol with a Ministry of Education exemption.
- NZ Citizen or Permanent resident.
- This programme is designed for people who are beginning a career in the Automotive Trades sector.
- This programme equips graduates with skills to study Automotive Trades programmes at Level 3.
- On completion, you will have entry-level skills to enter an Automotive trade as an apprentice or labourer working under supervision.

Today’s construction industry is calling out for more skilled and qualified workers.
If you want to kick-start your career or enter a Carpentry apprenticeship, our programme will give you all the practical experience and knowledge you need including Hand Tools, Power Tools and Fixed Machinery.
You’ll graduate ready to work in entry-level roles on residential and commercial building projects.
Study part-time and achieve two Carpentry qualifications.
- NZ Certificate in Building, Construction and Allied Trade Skills Level 1, 40 credits
- NZ Certificate in Building, Construction and Allied Trade Skills Level 2, 42 credits

Ākonga will learn about:
In BCATS Level l, you will build a saw stool and toolbox while learning about health and safety, safe working practices and procedures, how to operate portable power and hand tools safely, and the use of hardware, fastenings and joints. You will also learn how to measure timber correctly, read plans and job specifications and listen to instructions.
In BCATS Level 2, you will demonstrate safe work practices, procedures and processes while safely operating portable power tools, fixed machinery and selecting the correct materials. You will also use measurements and calculations to solve problems, interpret project documents and learn more about the different trades in a construction project.
