You won’t be stuck in the classroom with our trades programmes. Working on practical projects in our purpose-built workshops, you’ll work as part of a team learning hands-on skills.
Choose from Carpentry and Construction or Automotive Training. Our trades programmes are supported by a Literacy and Numeracy kaiako who will help you improve your maths, reading and
writing. You’ll finish up with everything you need to land an apprenticeship or an entry-level job.

In BCATS Level 1, ākonga will build a saw stool and toolbox while learning about health and safety, safe working practices and procedures, how to operate portable power and hand tools safely, and the use of hardware, fastenings and joints. You will also learn how to measure timber correctly, read plans and job specifications and listen to instructions.
In BCATS Level 2, you will build a picnic table, a planter box and a cupboard with a drawer. You will demonstrate safe work practices, procedures and processes while safely operating portable power tools, fixed machinery and selecting the correct materials. You will also use measurements and calculations to solve problems, interpret project documents and learn more about the different trades in a construction project.

Applicants must be 16 to 24 years of age.
Applicants 15 years of age may enrol with a Ministry of Education exdmption.
NZ Citizen or Permanent resident.
This programme is designed for people who are beginning a career in the construction trade sector.
On completion, you will have entry-level skills to enter the construction trade as a carpentry/building apprentice or labourer working under supervision.
This programme equips graduates with the skills to study at Level 3 in Carpentry trades or a related field.
